5.2.5 Conflict of Interest
Service in the archdiocese carries with it a
responsibility to act in an ethical manner. All staff may not enter into any transaction (including other employment) where their own interests, the interests of friends, or those
considered family may conflict with those of the archdiocese.
Staff cannot accept, offer, or endorse any business, service, payment or gift,
unless it is in the normal course of business following open, legal, and
authorized procedures. These rules do not, of course, include gifts of reasonable value for birthdays, Christmas, or other special occasions, business meals of reasonable value, or other gifts of
nominal value. See also, Intellectual Property and Employment of Relatives.
Before accepting or holding a second job from a different employer or at a different location, a staff member must consult with the person in charge to discuss the actual or potential impact on the staff member's ability to meet job expectations.
