7.3.3 Warranties
Locations should review all structure, system and equipment warranties to ensure that warranty expiration dates are calendared and incorporated into the facility(ies) maintenance policy.
Locations should keep copies of all warranties and track communications, inspections and repairs as required to keep the warranty in effect for the prescribed period.
Typical warranties are as follows:
- Contractors: Contractors must provide a minimum one-year warranty to cover defects in quality of work including installation and construction techniques.
- Manufacturers: The quality and conditions of materials used in a project are covered by “manufacturer" warranties and vary in length.
- Equipment & Systems: Some equipment and systems require installation and maintenance by factory authorized vendors only and have a time limit.
- Products: Certain products should only be purchased through authorized dealers. Please note that on line market places, such as Amazon and Wayfair, may have vendors that are not authorized dealers.
- Exclusions: Warranties often exclude normal wear and tear, damage caused by improper use or maintenance and damage caused by third parties.
