The Construction Department functions as a resource to be consulted before and during the approval process for a construction-related project, and as the implementing agent for the project after all approvals have been obtained. The duties of the Construction Department include assisting locations and their consultants, architects, engineers, project managers, and contractors in technical and procedural matters from project inception to its successful completion. All requests for such assistance should be referred promptly to the Construction Department for a timely response.

Construction, remodeling and repairs of a location's physical plant and buildings and grounds require input from the Construction Department.  In addition to responding to locations' direct contacts, the Construction Department acts in coordination with the Regional Bishops offices.

Capital improvement projects, new buildings, expansion and development of existing structures, renovations, remodeling, demolitions, and major property insurance claims are all overseen and guided by Construction Department staff, who may assign a project manager to the tasks or require that a project manager be retained by the location.  The Construction Department also assists in remediation and abatement of environmental hazards.  On occasion, the Construction and Real Estate Department's responsibilities overlap; on those occasions, coordination by the location with both departments is essential.

The Construction Department:

  • Assesses and advises on the correct scope of a project

  • Consults on hiring vendors and contractors

  • Assists in bidding on projects

  • Insures that contracts are documented properly

  • Monitors the progress of projects

  • Reviews and approves progress payments while the work is in progress

  • Assists in close-out of the project, obtaining warranties, and coordinating training on any equipment as necessary.
