APPLICATION, TESTING, INTERVIEWING & ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURES

St. Paschal Baylon School is a parish school and as such, preferential consideration for admission to the school will be given to Catholic children, current in their Sacraments, who meet entrance requirements and whose parents are registered, supporting, active members of Saint Paschal Baylon Parish. An “active member" is defined as using the parish envelope system with a minimum donation of $350 per program year to the parish and by regular attendance at Sunday Mass. The Parish will notify each family in writing toward the end of the program year, when this $350 minimum expected donation has not been met. Parents will need to meet the minimum donation expectation at that time, in order to re-register their child for the following school year at the “supporting parishioner" tuition rate. The Pastor and Principal will annually review a student's continued eligibility for continued enrollment in SPBS.

Due to space limitations, priority is given to the following students:

  • To those Catholic children whose siblings have attended SPBS for the previous school year and are currently enrolled.
  • To Catholic students in good standing, who are transferring from another Catholic school.
  • To Catholic children of SPB parish members.
  • Catholic children of registered, supporting, active members of surrounding parishes who bring a letter of recommendation from their Pastor.
  • As space permits, we welcome applications from families of other faiths who have a desire for their children to be educated in the Catholic tradition.

Note: SPBS strives to provide Catholic education to as many Catholic children as possible, both in terms of our educational programs and special financial considerations; however, SPBS may have insufficient resources to serve the educational needs of all students.

All applicants will be evaluated prior to admission by the school, and in addition a personal interview may be conducted with the applicant's family and junior high applicants. In addition, the following application criteria must be met:

  • Applicable sacramental certificates, immunization records, the child's most recent report cards, standardized test scores (if applicable), STAR Test result (if applicable), and the recommendation from prior school must be presented at the time of application, along with a letter from your Pastor if you are not registered at Saint Paschal Baylon Church.
  • All students must comply with current California State immunization and health requirements prior to acceptance/enrollment at SPBS.
  • Behavior grades of applicants should be above average.
  • Payment of the $60.00 non-refundable application fee.
  • Parents must agree to actively and consistently support the spiritual, academic, and financial standards of the school.
  • Students applying for Kindergarten must be 5 years old prior to September 1 of the year they enter school. There are no exceptions made to this policy.
  • Students applying for First Grade must be 6 years old prior to September 1. Consideration may be granted to students who have successfully completed Kindergarten at another Catholic school.
  • Students applying for Grades K-8 will be evaluated academically, prior to admission. The evaluation process may include but is not limited to: personal interview with the student and family, placement test, records, recommendation(s) from previous teacher(s) and Principal, and verification of parish support.
