A student must serve detention upon receiving 4 Behavior Referrals during a trimester, or for a more serious infraction of the school rules (morning detentions are also issued for six tardies in a trimester). Detentions are scheduled as needed, from 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. when school is in session, of from 7:15-7:45am for a tardy detention. A “Notice of Detention" will be sent home with the student and must be signed by a parent. It is to be returned the next school day. During detention, the student will be required to address the reason(s) they are there, in order to formulate a positive action plan. Detentions are cumulative throughout the school year, and are considered a very serious consequence. Multiple detentions in a school year may result in a student being placed on Academic Probation/Failure to Meet Standards, and evaluation of the continuing status of the student at SPBS. For each detention served, the student's Behavior grades may be negatively affected on the following Report Card.
