Dress/Uniform Code

 

School uniforms must be worn on all school days ​unless otherwise specified.  A student who comes to school out of uniform must bring a note of explanation from his/her parent or guardian. Students may wear only plain white T-shirts under the uniform shirt​​ or blouse.  

Parents will be notified of all uniform/general appearance violations via an out of uniform notice. Detention will be assigned after three (3) uniform violations. Students may be sent to the office or sent home until appropriately dressed.

​Please mark your child’s name clearly on all items of clothing which may be removed during school hours, including boys’ shirts and girls’ jumpers. Lost items will be placed in the school’s lost and found located in the Resource Room. Unclaimed and unlabeled items will be given away or sold in December, March, and June.

General Appe​​ar​​ance

    • ​​Uniforms must be clean, in good condition, and appropriately sized. Oversized or tight clothing is not allowed.

    • ​Hair must be properly groomed, clean, neat in appearance and must be a natural color (bleached/dyed/highlighted hair is not permitted). Exaggerated or extreme hairstyles, hair that hangs in the face or that emulates gang or criminal affiliations distract from the educational experience and are not permitted. School administration shall determine if a student’s hairstyle violates this policy.

    • Hair accessories should be uniform colors: white, black, navy, or gray.

    • Make-up and nail polish are not permitted. Any student wearing make-up and/or nail polish will be asked to remove it.

    • Girls may wear one small set of earrings; dangling earrings are not allowed. Boys may not wear an earring(s).  

    • Students may not wear excessive jewelry (such as several bracelets).

    • Oversized or tight clothing is not allowed.

    • TK students wear a PE uniform every uniform day.

​Shoes and S​​​ocks

    • ​​​​For safety purposes, well fitting athletic shoes must be worn on all types of uniform days (regular, PE, Mass and free dress).

    • Athletic shoes must be primarily black, gray, white, or navy blue with no pictures/designs, lights, or wheels

    • Socks must be worn. White, black, or navy blue ankle or athletic socks are permitted.

    • No army or construction style boots. No rain boots.

    • Shoe laces: Only solid (all) black or solid (all) white shoe laces are allowed

    • No sandals or slip-on shoe

    • *Navy blue refers to the navy blue color found on the regular school uniform. Turquoise, aqua, baby blue, denim blue, etc. are not permitted.

​Mass Att​​i​re

    • ​​Students are expected to wear full uniform (ties and no shorts) on all Mass days. If the student does not comply with Mass uniform they will be given a warning, then a detention.

    • If P.E. day and Mass day coincide, students must wear their full Mass uniform.

    • No sweatshirts (pullover or hoodies) are allowed as Mass Uniform, the student may wear a blue cardigan or sweater vest.

    • TK Students wear PE, even to Mass

​Regular Uniform Dres​s Days

  • White, navy blue, or light blue polo shirt

    • ​A white, navy blue, or light blue turtleneck or long sleeved shirt may be worn under the uniform blouse or polo in cold weather, no thermal underwear grades 6-8.

  • Navy twill walking shorts or pants all grades.

    • Girls may wear the navy blue plaid (Dunbar) jumper or skort (grades K-5) or skirt (grades 6-8). Skirt length must be no shorter than 2” above the knee. Skirts may not be rolled at the waist. White, black, or navy blue tights may be worn in cold weather. Leg warmers, sweats, leggings, or stretch pants are not permitted. Socks must be worn. White, black, or navy blue ankle or athletic socks are permitted.

    • Belts must be worn (except in grades K and 1) and shirts must be tucked inside the pants/skirts on Mass days

    • Shorts/pants with pockets in legs are not allowed

    • Pants must fit comfortably at the waist and should not hang on the hips. 

    • Underwear must not be visible. Baggy pants are not allowed. 

  • A plain or uniform navy blue cardigan, pullover sweater, or sweatshirt is permitted. 

    • ​Jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts with logos or printing other than that of Incarnation Parish School are not permitted

    • On wet or very cold days, an extra jacket or coat may be worn.  This is in addition to the school sweatshirt, jacket or sweater.    

    ​​Physical Education ​(PE) Uniforms 

    Physical education uniforms are purchased from Dennis Uniform. On P.E. days, girls and boys may wear:

    • Navy blue uniform walking shorts and white or blue Incarnation T-shirt or the current year’s Jog-A-Thon shirt

    • Mesh shorts with Incarnation logo (shorts may not be rolled at the waist); other mesh shorts do not meet uniform requirements

    • Incarnation Parish School sweatpants; other non-Incarnation sweats do not meet uniform requirements

    • The P. E. uniform may be worn all day only on P.E. days.

    • If Mass and PE falls on same day students are to wear Mass attire.

    • TK wears PE every uniform day (regular, Mass and PE). 

    Free Dress Days (​Non-Uniform Days)

    Students are expected to be clean and neat in their personal appearance, observing standards of modesty, moderation, and good taste. Any interpretation and judgment in these matters lies with the school personnel. Free dress guidelines apply to regular free dress days and school events (concerts, dances, etc.). More details for special events will be sent out if needed. 


    • No low-rise jeans pants

    • No midriff tops; tops must be long enough to cover the waist, even when hands are raised over the head

    • Dresses, skirts, and shorts may not be shorter than 2” above the knee

    • No strapless, spaghetti straps, or halter tops, or tops with bare shoulders (with jacket/sweater ok – jacket/sweater must remain on at all times)

    • No excessively tight, low-cut, or revealing clothing.

    • Leggings are not allowed unless worn with a tunic style shirt that reaches to the thigh. 

    • Shirts must have sleeves 

    • Shirts must be either tucked into the pants or extend below the waistline

    • Pants must be secured around the natural waist

    • No oversized clothing

    • Shirts may not have inappropriate sayings or images

    • No hats or beanies (wide brim hats to protect students from the sun while playing outside are permitted).

    • Jeans must be in good taste (no holes, proper fit)

    • Scarves are only allowed outside of the classroom.

    • Shoes must be closed toe. No sandals allowed. 

    • A student who comes to school inappropriately dressed will be sent home to be properly groomed and dressed and risks losing the privilege of “free dress.”
