Assessments
Assessment of student learning is a critical component of the educational program. Assessment
is on-going, integrated into teaching and learning, and is formal and informal. The purpose of assessment is to both measure student learning and to adjust teaching to meet the needs of the students. Assessment goals are met through standardized testing, together with curriculum-based assessment and evaluation.
Standardized Testing
Incarnation Parish School follows the Los Angeles Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools (DCS) protocol for standardized testing. All students in grades TK-8 will take the STAR test four times a year during the testing window set forth by DCS. These tests are given to assess academic standing, determine the growth of each individual student, and plan for academic improvement.
Curriculum Based Assessment
Assessment of student learning is an integral part of the instructional process. The purpose of assessment is to guide instructional decisions in meeting goals and to report student progress toward meeting content standards. It is integrated into the teaching/learning process and is varied. Assessment of student learning is ongoing and multifaceted. Students may also be evaluated on their performance as a member of a group while working on performance tasks and projects.
Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (ACRE)
The Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE) is designed to assess the religious knowledge and outcomes of the school’s religion program. The assessments are administered annually to students in grades five (5) and eight (8). Individual results are not provided.
