Absence

Principals and teachers are responsible for checking the regular attendance of all students. Every absence must be recorded on the attendance register and record.

Absences

Please call the Health Office at (818) 784-9089 before 8:00 a.m. if your child will not be coming to school that day. The student is responsible for his/her make up work.

Email the teacher directly regarding homework assignments or if you need to pick up books. These can be picked up in the Health Office by the end of the day.

Jr. High parents, please e-mail all the teachers your child has regarding picking up books, which can be picked up in the Health Office as well.

In addition, the State of California requires a WRITTEN excuse signed by the parent or legal guardian. The note, which is required for readmission to class, must state the reasons for the absence, as well as the date(s) when the student was not in school.  These excuses are kept on file in the office for the remainder of the trimester.

Medical absences must be covered by a written excuse obtained from the doctor's office. Archdiocesan policy mandates that students may not be credited with a medical absence on school registers. If a student is not present at school for any reason, they must be marked absent. Official medical excuses are required only for teacher and administration consideration of classwork, homework, and assignments.

Any child absent five days or more due to illness must have a note from a Doctor clearing him/her to return to school.

A student absent from school may not participate in a sporting activity or any other extra-curricular activity on the day he/she is absent.

ABSENCES FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN ILLNESS:

When a student is going to be absent for several days, for any reason whatsoever, it is mandatory that a note is sent to the principal and the student's homeroom teacher explaining the reason for such an extended absence. This explanation is to be sent to the school prior to the absence.

SFDS strongly discourages extended absences due to vacation.  Scheduling make-up tests or other work is at the discretion of the teacher and administration.
