Christian Service
Value of Recognizing Christian Service
"The experience of Christian community leads naturally to service" (To Teach as Jesus Did: A Pastoral
Message on Catholic Education, 28).
One of the tenets of Christ’s message is to serve others. All students participate in school-wide projects
throughout the year headed by the Student Council as well as individual class service projects.
Students in Grades 6-8 are required to fulfill a designated number of hours in community service as part of
their religious training here at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic School. The breakdown of the hours is to ensure
that students have the opportunity to experience a variety of Christian service. All service must be preapproved by the student’s Religion teacher by completing a service hour form obtained from the teacher.
Any questions regarding service are to be directed to the homeroom teacher. The principal will sign off on
completed hours.
Santa Rosa de Lima middle school students are required to complete Christian service hours annually. This
commitment comes as part of a students’ commitment to faith and schoolwide learning expectations, their
trimester three Religion grade and graduation requirements. Christian service at the middle school level
must be completed prior to June 1 of every school year.
- 6th grade – 10 hours
- 7th grade – 10 hours
- 8th grade – 10 hours
Through the Christian service program, students at middle school levels give service beyond the school
setting in ways that further their faith, engender hope, and witness love. Christian service programs should
foster an understanding of the essential connection between the Eucharist and Christian service.
