ADMISSION AND ATTENDANCE
Parents and studets must realize the importance of consistent attendance at school – especially in consideration to punctuality each day. Under California law, students are expected to attend school every day, unless there is a valid reason for an absence. All children who are between the ages of six and eighteen must be enrolled in school. A student who is absent from school more than three consecutive days (without written or verbal notification to the school) is considered truant. Students who are habitually absent are then subject to dismissal and a report of student absences are submitted to the local public agency superintendent or Child Welfare authorities.
Principals and teachers are responsible for checking the regular attendance of all students. Every absence must be recorded on the attendance register and record. Elementary schools record absences according to the instructions on the Student Attendance Register.
MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS
When time is spent in medical and dental appointments, this is referred to as a medical absence. **Please try to schedule appointments outside of the school day. If this is not possible, a note from the doctor must be presented to the school before the absence can be entered in the Attendance Register as a medical absence. Frequent absences of this type are detrimental to the student’s class work and should be kept to a minimum.
