5.6 HONORS AND AWARDS [E.G. VALEDICTORIAN]

Honors are announced to recognize student achievement and distinction in various areas.  At the end of the school year, an assembly is held to recognize student honors.

Grades 4 through 8 Honors

1st Honors = 3.7 or higher GPA average

2nd Honors = 3.3 GPA minimum average

Honorable Mention = 3.0 GPA minimum average


Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Assumption BVM School’s Graduating Class Valedictorian/s and Salutatorian/s represent the top academic performers of the graduating class.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian status is awarded to the top student/s in the 8th grade class based on total weighted GPA in grades 6-8

Valedictorian and Salutatorian Evaluation Criteria:

  • All core courses (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Religion) will be included in the calculation of the total weighted GPA

  • Students must be enrolled by the first trimester of 7th grade year to be considered for Valedictorian 

  • Potential Valedictorian candidates will be identified after the first trimester report card is issued in 8th grade

  • Potential Valedictorian candidates may be dropped from the list based on second and third trimester 8th grade grades

  • Final Valedictorian status will be confirmed based on their report card grades from grades 6th-8th

  • Students may be removed from valedictorian candidacy if it is determined by administration that they do not meet acceptable Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School standards or academics.
