School Uniform Policy

The wearing of a uniform is an integral part of a Catholic school environment.  Students in uniform are less pressured at school by clothing trends and peer comparisons. The decision as to what is in accord with the uniform policy rests with the principal. All students are to be in full uniform each day, including the first day of school. All uniform clothing must be purchased from the uniform company selected by the school. Students may only wear uniforms, sweaters, jackets, etc., purchased from the uniform company. The exception to this is the Spirit Sweatshirts (hooded, zipper front) that are purchased through the school. Uniform sweaters and jackets are for indoor/outdoor use.  School jackets and sweaters are recommended to be embroidered with only the last name of the student, which is placed on the right side; the school patch is worn on the left. All clothing should be neat and clean and worn in the appropriate manner. Blouses and shirts are to be tucked in at all times (except the uniform over-blouse).  Boys must wear solid black or blue belts and a tie (except on P.E. days). Pants must be appropriately sized and may not expose undergarments. Girls wearing the jumper or skirt may wear shorts to cover undergarments.

Shoes and SSFP Socks Policy

Girls must wear white, solid leather athletic-style shoes. Canvas shoes are not allowed and shoes should not have any colored markings. On non-P.E. days, girls may wear Mary Jane style black shoes or saddle shoes. The saddle shoes may be black and white or navy and white. Boys must wear black, solid leather or black, suede athletic-style shoes. Canvas shoes are not allowed and shoes should not have any white or colored markings. Shoes should be laced and tied properly (unless they have Velcro). High-tops and slip-on shoes are not allowed. All shoes must be flat soled, closed-toed, and full backed. Students with special foot problems must have a written note from the doctor on file in the school office each school year. All students are to wear solid white crew socks, which come above the ankle. The socks should have no logos on them. Please check that the packaging says crew socks when purchasing. Girls may wear white or navy tights, or red, white or navy knee high socks on cold days. Cotton leggings are not to be worn.

Jewelry

Students may wear no more than one pair of simple stud earrings.  For safety reasons, dangling earrings and body piercing are not permitted. Students may not wear bracelets or rings, but may wear one watch.  Anklets are not permitted.  A religious medal on a chain may be worn around the neck, but it must be tucked inside the blouse or shirt at all times – no other neck jewelry is permitted. Boys are not permitted to wear earrings. Jewelry carrying monetary or sentimental value should not be worn to school.

Make-up

Make-up and nail polish are not appropriate in a Catholic school setting and are not permitted.  Body markings (for example: temporary tattoos) are not permitted.

Hair

Hair must be properly groomed, clean, neat in appearance and must be a natural color.   Exaggerated or extreme hairstyles, hair that hangs in the face or that emulates gang or criminal affiliations distract from the educational experience and are not permitted.   School administration shall determine if a student's hairstyle violates the policy.

Dressy Dress

Throughout the year, students may be required to wear “Dressy Dress".  Boys are to wear long slacks (no jeans) and a shirt with a collar.  Shirts may not have slogans, writing or pictures on them.  Girls are to wear skirt/blouse or dresses; blouse or top must have sleeves (no slogans, writing or pictures).  Tank-top, strapless, or spaghetti strapped dresses and blouses are not permitted without a sweater.   Dresses/skirts should be no more than one inch above the knee. Blouses that expose the midriff or low cut pants or skirts are not appropriate in the school setting. Flip flops may not be worn.

Casual Free Dress

Throughout the year, students may be allowed to wear casual free dress or special dress.  Details regarding the special dress will be provided to students and parents when the special day is announced.   Parents and students should consider the school environment when choosing their free dress attire.  Flip flops may not be worn.

School Picture Day Clothing

Clothing for school picture day is the Mass attire uniform.

Dress Code Violations

In the event that a student does not abide by the school uniform policy or dress code, the following actions may be taken to ensure compliance and a dress code violation form will be given.  Normally the teacher or supervisor will immediately counsel and correct the violation.  Some dress code violations may require parental contact and parental action to remedy the situation (for example: delivering proper clothing).  In addition, students may be issued a student detention slip after 3 uniform notices.  Dress code violations will affect a student's conduct grade and may prevent them from participating in school activities and events.  In cases of serious violations, parent conferences will be held so that the parents and school may work together to remedy the situation. Three violations of this policy will result in a detention.

Principal's Discretion

The dress code is established as a guideline to maintain a positive school environment.  Fashions and trends may not be identified in the above policies and guidelines.  The principal has the discretion of determining what attire and trend is appropriate or not appropriate in the school setting. One of the primary goals of the uniform and conduct policies are to ensure that students do not stand out.
