Absences
When a student is absent, a written excuse signed by the parent/guardian is required upon return, and will be kept on file for a period of one year. The note should include the student's name, date(s) of absence, and the reason for the absence. An acceptable excuse includes illness, attendance at medical or dental appointments, funeral services for family members, quarantine directed by County or City Officials or emergency or special circumstances as determined by the school authorities. Parents should call the school office before 9:00 am (626) 796-8223, Extension 1 to report that your child will be absent from school. Please state his/her name, grade and reason that he/she will be absent from school. It is absolutely necessary to state the reason so that the teacher can be advised, as we list the reason on the attendance slip for the teacher each day. A doctor's release may be requested before a student can be re-admitted for some medical reasons. It is the school's policy that students may be absent a maximum of 10 days in any trimester unless a special arrangement is made for a homebound program. Excessive, unexcused absences may result in loss of academic credit, and official grades may be withheld. When, for family reasons, parents wish to take their children out of school temporarily, the principal and teacher will discuss with the parents the possible effects of such an absence. Parents may also request homework when phoning the absentee line (Please refer to Homework Procedures in this handbook).
