Extended Absences
When a student is absent for an extended time, the parents/guardians and school administration should discuss the effect of the absence on the student's academic progress and continued enrollment. The school may issue an incomplete or withhold official grades.
Students, who are absent due to illness, need to take the opportunity to rest and recuperate. However, if parents wish to request their child’s homework for that day, parents may call or email the school office by 8:30 am to request it and the assignments will be made available for pick up at the end of the school day. Pick up of homework is available at 2:50 pm daily except Friday which is at
12:25 pm. Due to the nature of in-class work, not all classwork assignments may be made up.
Following an extended absence of three or more days, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain all missing work from the teacher(s) when he/she returns to school. This policy also applies for absences due to family vacations/trips. See other subsections for more information.
Family Trips/Vacations
Due to the importance and breadth of information presented in the classroom each day, the school discourages students from missing school for any reason, except for health reasons. In the event of absence due to a family trip, it is the responsibility of the student to make up all class work, assignments, and tests missed as a result upon return. Teachers will not be able to give missed work out in advance of a trip. Exceptions cannot be made for completing missing work after the teacher’s absence/late work policy expires, and missing work will not be accepted after the end of a trimester/semester.
