Topic 4-04-5 – Tardiness

Tardiness is defined as arriving in any class after the bell for the start of class has rung.

First Block of the Day

  • Classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m., and we encourage students to be dropped off or arrive on their own between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m.
  • Students who are 15 minutes or more tardy to the first class of the day must go to the Attendance Office to obtain a tardy slip before attending their first class.  Twenty minutes or more tardy is considered an absence and the student is subject to disciplinary action.
  • Students will receive detention beginning with the fourth tardy to school each semester.  Detention is waived in consideration of unforeseen circumstances for the first three tardies of each semester.
  • Students who arrive more than 20 minutes late or are absent from a class 13 or more times are required to attend summer school for that course.
  • Other Class Periods
  • Tardiness to any class is a school infraction.  It may be excused only when it is the result of a counseling or other appointment with a school official and the student presents the teacher with a note from that person.

  • “0" Period Classes
  • Students enrolled in these classes are subject to all Absence and Tardy policies.  ("0" period classes begin at 7:00 a.m.)
  • Credit may be withheld if a student accumulates an excessive number of unexcused absences.

T = (Tardy) late arrival within the first 15 minutes of class.
N = (No Credit) 20 minutes or more late to class.
     A = (Absent) entire class.
Consequences for tardies to school (T, N, A) and/or class include the following:
  • Detention
  • Probation
  • Strict Probation
  • Discipline Review Board
  • Loss of course credit
