The 2022-2023 Saint Joseph High School Parent-Student Handbook (PSHB) provides essential information about the policies, procedures and regulations that the school expects parents/guardians and students to understand and follow. By reading this handbook and signing the acknowledgment, parents/guardians and students agree to the SJHS and Los Angeles Archdiocese Code of Conduct and all school policies and regulations.

Parents/guardians are the primary educators of their children. SJHS supports, enhances, and complements the parent/guardian role through formal education. We keep parents/guardians informed about their daughters’ grades and progress through the PowerSchool Parent Portal, where your daughter’s progress and assessments are updated weekly by teachers. In addition to PowerSchool, report cards, student progress checks, conferences, Back-to-School Night, and carefully prepared programs that demonstrate materials and methods employed in the school are provided.

The principal and her administrative team, acting on the school's behalf, reserve the right to amend the PSHB at any time. SJHS will notify parents/guardians and students when a change is made.

The SJHS PSHB is linked to and aligned with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles (ADLA) Administrative Handbook, which incorporates the California Education Code. For 22-23, the SJHS PSHB has been reformatted based on the archdiocese handbook and is online. The content has not changed from the version published during 22-23 registration, except for the following:
  • Chapter 8 Discipline
  • Chapter 7 Tuition and Fees
Some handbook sections are particular to Saint Joseph High School. Other sections are automatically populated by the LA archdiocese.

Controversial Issues
Those topics or issues of a religious, moral, socio-political, or scientific nature in which there are definite but different opinions among recognized theologians, moralists, social scientists and/or scientists are considered to be controversial. The position of the school on these issues reflects the philosophy of the Catholic Church.
