Recess / Lunch / Playground

All students have a mid-morning and lunchtime recess. Each grade level is assigned a specific play area. No students should be in a classroom without a teacher present, on the stairs or upper landing during recess. Students are to stay in their assigned area except when using the rest rooms or drinking fountains.

Recess is primarily a time to relax, eat a nutritious snack/meal, fill a water bottle and use the restroom. To assure the safety of all students, the following activities are not allowed:

•        No games where balls are thrown at other students.

•        No moving benches/tables.

•        No sitting or climbing on tables.

•        No sitting on the stairs or landing.

•        No random kicking of footballs, soccer balls, or kick balls.

•        No rowdy behavior, including pushing and shoving.

•        No foul or offensive language.

•        No chasing or screaming. Keep hands to yourself!

All activities should cease immediately at the first bell.

Students should be in line and prepared to enter class at the second bell.

Students may bring a packed lunch to school or purchase a hot lunch. For safety reasons, glass bottles or containers are not permitted at school. Do not include food items that require heating or hot water. All students must eat with his/her class at an assigned lunch area. Students are to remain seated at the lunch tables until they are dismissed by the supervisors.

The eating area to which the class is assigned must be clean before students are dismissed from the tables.

A hot lunch program is available. Information on cost, menus, and purchasing is available on the school's website. Parents should not purchase and deliver fast food lunches. Children should be responsible to bring lunch on days when school hot lunch is not ordered.

Snacks may be eaten during recess. Students are expected to throw away any wrappers, containers, paper bags, garbage, etc. Snacks need to be eaten at the designated lunch tables. Snacks should never be eaten on the stairway or in the classroom, unless poor weather has forced students inside. The drink machine is unavailable to students during morning recess.
