Discipline & Communication Policy (TK–8)

Purpose: To resolve disciplinary matters promptly, fairly, and at the lowest appropriate level while preserving student dignity and instructional time.

Chain of Command for All Disciplinary Issues

  1. Start with the Teacher (Step 1)

    • Contact method: Email the child’s teacher or request a meeting.

    • Goal: Allow the teacher to problem-solve with the student and parent/guardian.

    • Response time: Please allow 1–2 school days for an initial response.

  2. Vice-Principal Involvement (Step 2)

    • If the concern persists after Step 1, the vice-principal is notified.

    • The vice-principal collaborates with the teacher, student, and parent/guardian to develop and monitor a support plan.

  3. Principal Involvement (Step 3)

    • If the issue continues after Step 2, the matter is elevated to the principal.

    • A meeting may be scheduled to review prior interventions and determine next steps to resolve the issue.

Note: Serious or urgent situations (e.g., safety concerns, threats, harassment) may be immediately elevated to administration (vice-principal/principal) while parents are informed promptly.

Documentation & Follow-Up

  • Staff will document concerns, parent communication, and interventions tried.

  • Parents/guardians will receive timely updates on progress and next steps.

  • Consequences and restorative actions will align with the school’s Code of Conduct and age/grade level.

Counseling & Student Support Services

  • School-based counseling services are available for students who may benefit from additional social-emotional or behavioral support.

  • Referrals can be initiated by the teacher, parent/guardian, or administrator. Written parent/guardian consent is required for ongoing services.

Family Partnership Expectations

  • Communicate concerns respectfully and follow the chain of command outlined above.

  • Attend scheduled meetings and support agreed-upon interventions at home and school.

  • Maintain confidentiality to protect student privacy.
