ADLA STUDENT REPORT CARDS POLICY
Purpose
To effectively partner with parents/guardians and meet local reporting needs, the archdiocesan report card is the official vehicle to report student academic progress as well as work habits and behavior to parents/guardians.
The purpose of report cards is to effectively communicate student progress in achieving learning goals. The marks for content area subjects should reflect student mastery of grade-level standards. Work habits, including homework completion and behavior, should be recorded separately in their respective sections.
Guidelines
Report cards must include a legend that clearly explains the criteria applied for each grade. Report cards may not include information that identifies students as having a disability. Under "Support Team Education Plan (STEP) Meeting and Documentation," see Report Cards and Cumulative Records for additional guidelines for students with special needs.
HOLY ANGELS PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress reports are sent home after the sixth week of each trimester. Progress reports are general overviews of a student’s performance at that time, and should be viewed in such a manner. It is a form of communication with a parent, and not to be viewed in the same manner as a report card.
HOLY ANGELS REPORT CARDS
Report cards are issued within two weeks following the end of each twelve week grading period for levels K through 8. Students will receive three Report Cards per school year. In Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten assessment reports are issued twice each year. A mandatory parent-teacher conference is held with the parents to discuss the first report card at the conclusion of the first trimester. Report cards must be signed and returned within one week of receipt.
HONORS SYSTEM
The following awards are given each trimester to students achieving academic excellence in grades 4-8:
• Principal’s Award: Students with a grade point average of 3.75-4.0 Less than 10 tardies, and a “O” or higher average overall in work habits and in behavior.
• Honor Roll: Students with a grade point average of 3.20-3.74. Less than 10 tardies, and a “G” or higher average overall in work habits and in behavior.
Grades from the following subjects are used to determine grade point average: Religion, Math, English, Literature, Social Studies, Science, Spelling/Vocabulary, and Spanish for grades 7 and 8. A student who fails to complete or turn in more than 2 assignments in any class not factored into his or her G.P.A. (e.g., Technology, Spanish grades 4, 5, and 6, Art, Music, et. al) during one trimester will not be eligible for any academic awards.
A “D” in any subject disqualifies a student from Honor Roll. Any “NI” grades in behavior or in work habits disqualifies a student from Honor Roll or Principal’s List. Ten or more tardies in one trimester disqualifies a student from academic honors. Any form of suspension (in or out of school) disqualifies a student from academic honors for the trimester in which the suspension took place.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
A student will be placed on Academic Probation if his/her grade point average is below 2.0. A student placed on academic probation will not be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities and risks not being invited back to Holy Angels for the forthcoming year.
Any student displaying both academic and behavioral problems, and who is unwilling to change, will be asked to leave the school.
