DISCIPLINE

Discipline is an aspect of moral guidance and not a form of punishment. The purpose of discipline is to provide a school climate conducive to learning and one that promotes character development.

Discipline is maintained in a classroom or school when students work cooperatively with the principal, the teachers, and their classmates towards the attainment of the class and school objectives. However, it should be noted that the legitimate interest of the school extends beyond the school day and beyond the school hours.

All disciplinary policies and procedures are subject to the approval of the principal. The principal has the right to adapt and/or revise these rules as may be deemed necessary.

CLASSROOM RULES

All teachers have classroom rules and consequences posted in their classrooms. Each faculty member is responsible for clearly articulating and notifying parents and students of the classroom policies and procedures.

DETENTION

Detention will be served on the specified day each week beginning at 3:00, unless otherwise indicated. All detentions must be served – there are no exceptions.’; If a student fails to show up for detention, the Principal will notify the parent and the student may be suspended for one day during the following week of school, or the length of detention can be extended. If a student has any extra-curricular activity on the day s/he has detention, detention must be served first. Any sports, games or practice activity will NOT excuse a student from detention. Any student receiving a 1 hour detention will be suspended from the next extra-curricular activity of any kind. Students should be picked up from the school office upon completing their detention time.

Disciplinary incidents on Gradelink will serve as notification to parents of indicators that will affect their students’ discipline grades.  Parents are expected to check Gradelink regularly to be notified of any incidents that have occurred.

Warning vs. Incident vs. Infraction

Warning - Verbal warning will be given by the teacher, staff member, and/or administrator.

Incident - Written incident report will be documented in Gradelink by the teacher, staff member, and/or administrator.

Infraction - Written report will be documented in Gradelink and in the student's daily planner by the teacher, staff member, and/or administrator.

2 infractions = 30 min detention

3 infractions = 1 hour detention

4 or more infractions = More serious consequences deemed appropriate by the principal and vice principal.  Students may lose certain class privileges or the opportunity to participate in different activities.
