Because the purpose of sports and extracurricular activities is to support students' academic development, they must maintain acceptable conduct and academic progress in order to participate. A "C+" average in effort and behavior and an academic average of a "C-" for the trimester in the academic subjects (academic subjects include religion, math, reading, English, spelling, social studies, science, Spanish and Latin) are required. Eligibility is checked at each progress report and report card. Students who do not meet these academic and behavioral requirements will be placed on probation for a period of two weeks. If the deficiency is not rectified during the probation period, the student shall be ineligible to participate until his or her grades and conduct meet the standards for academic eligibility. At the end of the year a sports award banquet is held. Trophies and certificates of participation are awarded to students in grades five through eight who have been a part of the after-school sports program. In order to receive a sports award, completion of the season and a C+ average in conduct and effort are necessary.
