SCHOOL POLICIES for ADMISSION
Statement of Non-Discrimination
Visitation School, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.
The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, sex, or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies and practices, scholarship programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs.
Admission to Visitation School Guidelines
Visitation School gives preference in admissions to registered members of the parish and siblings of students already enrolled in the school. Parents, whose children are enrolled in the school, must subscribe to the school’s philosophy and agree to abide by the educational policies and regulations of the school.
Registering New Students
A birth certificate and immunization record must accompany registration of new students. If a child has been baptized Catholic, the baptismal certificate should also be presented. For children transferring from another school, report cards of that school must be presented. Emergency cards and proof of physical examination must be submitted to the registrar prior to the first day of school. These forms will be kept on file in the school office.
Entrance Age
Our Junior Kindergarten program is designed specifically for late four to early five year old children. Students wishing to enter Junior Kindergarten must be four years old by August 31st for the year they are entering Junior Kindergarten.
Students wishing to enter kindergarten, must be five by August 31st for the year they are entering kindergarten. All kindergarteners must have the required State of California’s Child Health and Disability Prevention Program Examination (CHDP) completed prior to the beginning of first grade.
A child entering 1st grade should be six years of age on or before August 31st of that school year. All first graders, and any student new to the school, must have completed the required State of California’s Child Health and Disability Prevention Program Examination (CHDP).
Visitation School will accept any child for whom an appropriate program can be designed and implemented following its prescribed enrollment procedures. Each child admitted to Visitation School will continue in the school based upon his/her academic, emotional and physical needs and the resources available to the school in meeting those needs. The final decision in this matter will be determined by the school administration.
Visitation School does not typically admit 8th-grade transfers, as the late addition to an established school community can affect the culture of a class and the school as a whole. However, applications may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Visitation School does not consider 8th grade transfers who wish to repeat 8th grade or reclassify for athletic purposes.
Probationary Period
Occasionally, students are accepted into Visitation School on a probationary basis, usually for one trimester. This probationary period allows the faculty and administration to determine whether an appropriate educational program can be offered to each student. It also gives the student time to become adjusted to a new school and meet the school’s expectations. Families will be contacted during and throughout the probationary period to determine if the school is unable to meet the unique requirements for any given student.
