Early dismissal for medical or dental appointments will be granted when a written request is made by the parent to the class teacher. Since basic subjects are taught in the morning, we urge you to keep such requests to a minimum. When calling for your child, please sign the release book in the school office.  An appointment slip may be obtained from the doctor's office which legally credits your child with attendance at school.

Illness​

If your child is absent or is going to be absent, please call the school office before 9:00 a.m. When your child returns to school, he/she must bring an excuse written by the parent/guardian. The written excuse must be written on suitable paper, placed in an envelope and addressed to the teacher.

A student returning, after having a contagious disease or an illness of one week or more, must have a doctor’s release form stating that the student may return to school.

Students will be given one extra day to complete assignments for every day of absence due to illness. That is, if a student is out two sick days, he/she will be given two days to complete homework and schedule assessments.  As illness severity varies, students and parents are encouraged to communicate with the teacher to reschedule homework due dates and assessments.

Family Vacations

Family vacations should coincide around St. Brendan School vacation periods so that your child/children can take full advantage of the education provided here at St. Brendan School. Should you decide to take your child out of school because of a family vacation or work, please notify the school office and teacher. It is unrealistic to expect your child’s teacher to prepare assignments in advance for the child to bring on the trip. It is the student’s responsibility to complete all assignments while away from school. Students are encouraged to contact the teachers themselves. When absences are because of illness or vacation, it is the teacher and school administration’s decision as to when homework and assignments are due. Keeping in contact with a classmate is the best solution for acquiring missed assignments due to family vacation or work.

Movie, Television or Professional Entertainment Contracts

If a student is absent from school because of movie, television, or professional entertainment contracts, this may be considered an excused absence and could be marked as such in the attendance register and records. The student will be expected to remain current with academic expectations and requirements.

No report card grades will be given if a student is absent more than 10 days in a trimester.
