FIELD TRIPS

In order to participate in a field trip, each student is required to return a parent-signed permission slip in advance of the day.

In order for a parent/guardian to volunteer on a field trip the following information must be completed in advance of the field trip:

1)  Live Scan fingerprint information on file with school
2)  current certification in Virtus® Protecting God’s Children course

3)  read and agree to the Field Trip Chaperone Guidelines:

Chaperone Expectation Guidelines and Agreement

Thank you for helping to broaden the learning experiences of students beyond the classroom by volunteering for this field trip.

We value your assistance.  The expectations listed below are for all chaperones during all field trips.  The adults are important models of Vincentian behavior for the students.

Since field trip “season” is upon us, we wanted to give parents/guardians a brief reminder of some of our policies and procedures regarding field trips.

  • As chaperone of the SVS, chaperones must sign a volunteer agreement.

  • It is the policy of St. Vincent School and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles that anyone chaperoning on field trips must be fingerprinted and Virtus trained prior to attending.

  • Chaperones must also complete a Chaperone Expectation Agreement indicating that they are aware of their duties and responsibilities.

  • Parents who attend a field trip, but are not a chaperone, must follow all of the field trip rules and regulations.

  • The purpose of having chaperones with us on a trip is to help us insure the well being and safety of our students. As a chaperone, you will be assigned a small group of children to supervise. These students must remain with you the entire duration of the field trip.

  • All field trips are an educational extension of our school curriculum. Therefore, all students are expected to follow our school and classroom rules on any trip. It is imperative that we, the adults, be the role models for these children. We need to remember that our children look to us and at us for role models. The way we look, talk and act are a reflection of what WE expect of our children.

  • Also, because a chaperone’s job is supervision, we cannot allow any siblings to attend our field trips.

We realize that sometimes there seems to be numerous rules and regulations to follow. However, your child’s safety and well being are most important to us. Thus, we are willing to take whatever measures necessary to ensure that all students and field trip participants are safe during field trip events.

We truly appreciate your participation in our field trips. Thank you for your cooperation in making these events successful learning experiences for our children.

By signing below, I understand and agree to the above responsibilities as a chaperone representing St. Vincent School.

All field trips have a stated educational purpose and objectives and all students are required to attend. If students do not participate in the field trip, they will be given an assignment related to that specific subject area. Field trips are a privilege and students may be denied participation in these trips if they fail to meet behavioral or academic requirements. The field trip policies listed below apply to class trips, school group trips (e.g. VMY, Academic Decathlon) and trips for school sport teams. All field trips, whether day or overnight must comply with the following requirements:

  • Prior permission of the principal.

  • Signed and dated Student and Youth Activity Permission Forms and Emergency Medical Authorizations from parents. All Permission and Authorization Forms must be in the possession of the supervising adult during the trip.

  • All participants must have appropriate identification and travel documents

  • All archdiocesan policies on safe environment must be followed, including background checks for vendors providing the trips, as applicable.

  • For trips outside the 100-mile radius of the school, guidelines must include consideration of the ability of parents to incur cost, the financial impact of the trip on other school fundraising activities and class work missed by students.

  • State law requires that a first aid kit be immediately available to the supervising adult on all excursions and field trips. First aid kits must be carried in all vehicles transporting students to school sponsored activities. Student emergency information must be immediately available to the supervising adult. At least one adult chaperone shall be in possession of a cell phone.

NO STUDENT may attend a field trip without a SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP by the parent. TELEPHONE CALLS DO NOT MEET LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PERMISSION! Children are not allowed to stay home if they are not participating in the field trip. Grouping on field trips will be left to the discretion of the teacher.
