Mission & Vision

As educators at Ascension Catholic School, our mission is to enable students to realize their spiritual, intellectual, and social potential.  We provide our students with a peaceful learning environment and a strong Catholic community.  We teach our students to appreciate the value of education, the importance of faith, and to prepare themselves for their future.  We, as Catholic educators, recognize our responsibility to the students and parents.  We believe the parents to be the primary educators of their children, and further believe the school, home, and church must work together for students to reach their full potential.  Ascension is an academically balanced, caring, Catholic school, stressing Christian values and morals that are grounded in the gospels.

Catholic Identity

Ascension School is the Catholic school of Ascension Church.  Emphasis is placed on helping students to grow in their relationship with God, to understand the basic teachings of the Catholic Faith, to participate in Catholic rituals and traditions, and to grow into morally responsible citizens.  All students, Catholic and non-Catholic, participate in religion classes and daily religious activities.

School History

Founded in 1938 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet with just four classrooms and a parish hall, Ascension Catholic School has been educating children of all denominations in the South Los Angeles community for over 70 years with almost 300 students in Pre-K and K-8 classrooms.

One of six regional accrediting associations in the United States, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) first accredited Ascension Catholic School in 2005, along with the Western Catholic Education Association.  With these accreditations, Ascension Catholic School creates the highest quality learning experience for all students and insures that efficient and relevant systems are in place to fulfill those expectations for every child.
