In keeping with the philosophy of SJOG, we believe that the appearance of students has an impact on attitudes and behavior. As a symbol of respect that creates an environment and provides an opportunity for education, the dress code that follows is designed to assist the students in developing a sense of modesty and decorum that emphasizes an appropriate manner of dress for the proper place and time. In related matters involving dress code, administration and faculty will make final decisions regarding acceptability and appropriateness of dress. Parents are expected to uphold this code and see that their children are in conformity with these policies and codes. This code applies to school and all school-sponsored activities.

MONDAY SCHOOL SPIRIT DAYS
Mondays are designated as "Spirit Days" at St. John of God School. On these days, students may wear a St. John of God shirt, such as those from drama, Jog-a-Thon, or other school-related activities, along with their regular uniform bottoms. This allows students to show their school spirit while maintaining a neat and unified appearance. All other uniform guidelines remain in effect, and students are expected to follow them accordingly.
FREE DRESS/ SPIRIT DAYS
On designated free dress days, students may wear clothing of their choice that adheres to the spirit of our school’s values and maintains a respectful learning environment. All attire should be clean and suitable for school activities. Clothing with inappropriate language, images, or messages is not permitted. Tops should have sleeves, and shorts, skirts, and dresses must be of a length that reaches at least mid-thigh. Jeans are allowed but may not be ripped or have holes in them. For safety reasons, closed-toe shoes are recommended.
Additional Information
All uniforms are expected to be CLEAN and in reasonably GOOD CONDITION. Proper length for jumpers, skirts, and shorts is expected. In cold weather, navy blue jackets and microfleece with school logos can be worn. Jackets without a school logo CANNOT be worn. Navy blue school beanies are allowed in cold weather only outside. Shirts must be tucked in on formal uniform days. Students should have shirts underneath their uniform shirts as they can often be see-through.
Hair: No mohawks, shaved heads, long bangs over the eyes, shaved designs, tails, or hair dye allowed. Junior high boys, no facial hair allowed.
Makeup: No facial, hand, or body make-up. This includes eye-liner, mascara, eye shadow, lipstick, lip gloss, or make-up of any kind. No colored nail polish is permitted.
Jewelry: No jewelry permitted except for plain non-electronic watches (boys and girls), single chain necklace with a religious medal (boys and girls), and earrings (girls only). Ladies, no large hoops or dangly earrings allowed.
VIOLATIONS:
If the violation is extreme, the faculty or staff member will send the student to the school office, and the parent will be called to bring a change of clothes. The principal, in cooperation with the supervisor in charge of an extracurricular activity, may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in school-sponsored activities, on or off campus. Students will be allowed three "out of uniform" violations before it becomes a major violation. After the third violation, each subsequent violation will result in a $10 fee. Parents will be notified via email, and the fee will be added to the FACTS account.
