BREAKFAST, SNACKS, AND HOT LUNCH

Breakfast will be served during the morning recess. If students are not purchasing a school lunch, lunches are to be brought to school in the morning by the child. If a child forgets his/her lunch, he/she may have a hot lunch.

For the child’s safety, no adult may bring lunch to the child in the yard during recess or lunch time. Forgotten lunches must be brought to the office, and the office will distribute the lunch to the student(s).

Parents are encouraged and urged to supply their child with a well-balanced and nutritious snack/lunch. Fruits and raw vegetables are appropriate for snacks. Foods that are not permitted include:

  • Lunches from fast-food businesses

  • Sodas and power drinks

  • Candy and gum

  • Foods that must be microwaved

  • Foods or drinks in metal cans or glass bottles

Our Lady of Talpa School provides free and reduced-price meals to students of low income families under the federal government’s school lunch program. The meals will be available at no charge to students whose parents qualify under the government’s free meal guidelines.  Students eligible for the reduced-price meal will pay only 40 cents for each school meal. In the operation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Program, no child will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, national origin, age or handicap.

Lunch forms are given out to every family, and lunch fees are paid monthly. The lunch payment is due by the 5th of each month.  Please send your check for lunch to Our Lady of Talpa School. Each month must be paid in full regardless of whether your child is absent or did not order lunch. If, at the end of the year, your child has not eaten all his/her lunches and you have an excess payment, you will be credited for it. The federal breakfast and lunch program fees are directed to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

If a student arrives after the bell, it is his/her responsibility to inform the office and/or lunch ladies if he/she wants to order a hot lunch that day.

A monthly menu is sent at the beginning of each month. Please make proper arrangements with the office in order to have lunch provided for your child/ren.
