History of the School

Mother of Sorrows School opened in 1948 under the direction of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.  After many years of expansion, the Sisters withdrew.  In 1999, the Daughters of Charity assumed sponsorship of the school.  Since that time, numerous positive changes have been made to the school.  The school celebrates its continued growth and improvement in its service to the community.

The school is under the patronage of Mary, the mother of Jesus, under the title of Mother of Sorrows.  The Sorrows of Mary are Scripture based.  They are:

  1. The prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:27-35)Mother of Sorrows.jpg

  3. Loss of the child Jesus in the temple (Luke 2:43-51)

  4. Mary meets Jesus carrying the cross (Luke 23:

  5. Mary stands beneath the cross (John 19:25-27)

  6. Mary receives the dead body of Jesus (John 19:38)
