Homework

Homework is an essential part of the educational process and is assigned each evening.

*During ​​Back-to-School Night, teachers explain in detail their homework procedures and expectations.

Purpose of Homework

  • To develop positive learning and study habits
  • To prepare for a new skill or concept
  • To practice skills and review concepts taught in class
  • To provide time for deeper understanding of concepts

Amount of Homework

  • K, 1, 2 – Around 30 min.       (Plus 20 minutes of independent reading)
  • 3, 4, 5 – Around 45-60 min.   (Plus 20 minutes of independent reading)
  • 6, 7, 8 – Varies by subject.     (Plus 20 minutes of independent reading)

*Incomplete classwork is added to homework assigned.

Responsibility of Parent

  • Sign in as an observer on the Classroom Canvas page.  School planners are no longer used.  All assignments are posted on the classroom Canvas page.
  • Monitor homework completion.

Responsibility of Student

  • Ask teacher questions if the assignment is not clear.
  • Check that everything to complete homework is in the backpack at the end of each day.
  • Complete any work not finished in class.

​Responsibility of Teacher

  • Explain the purpose of homework.
  • Post all assignments on the Classroom Canvas page, ensuring that all homework has been written, all materials are with students, and any questions have been answered.
  • Check homework for accuracy and provide timely feedback when necessary.
  • Use homework as formative assessment to inform instruction.
  • Communicate with parents through Canvas.
