​​​5.1 Employment Policies and Procedures

Scope of Chapter

5.1 through 5.10 of this chapter cover personnel policies and procedures that apply generally to all persons serving the archdiocese: clergy, religious, lay employees, and volunteers in all archdiocesan locations. 5.11 of this chapter covers general personnel policies and procedures that apply to all archdiocesan and parish schools; private Catholic schools in the archdiocese are encouraged to use this section as a reference for their own policies. 5.12 applies to religious, 5.13 applies to clergy-priests and 5.14 applies to clergy-deacons.​

Policies, forms, and documents referenced in this chapter can be accessed by clicking on the links and are provided as resources in each section. Information in this chapter is made available to private schools and other non-archdiocesan entities for reference and adoption, as they may elect.

Applicable Terms

Throughout this chapter the following terms are used:

Clergy - Bishops, diocesan and religious priests, and transitional and permanent deacons who are incardinated in or who have faculties in the archdiocese

Employees - Persons who are not clergy or religious and who are compensated for their work in the archdiocese

Location - Any parish, school (whether parish or archdiocesan), the Archdiocesan Catholic Center, any Catholic cemetery or Catholic mortuary, and any other operating unit in the archdiocese

Person in charge - The department head, manager or supervisor of an archdiocesan department, entity or corporation; the pastor, administrator, parish life director, pastoral associate, deacon or other person designated as in charge of ​or to manage a parish; the superintendents of elementary schools or high schools, or a principal, president, or head of school, as applicable

Religious - Men and women who are members of religious institutes

Staff or staff member - Employees, clergy, religious who hold a paid position in the archdiocese, and unpaid interns, as well as volunteers who fulfill staff functions without compensation for such functions

Volunteers - Persons who do not expect or receive compensation of any kind for performing services at any location
