​Opening a File

Whenever an accident or personal injury occurs, the location should open files for the incident. For work-related injuries, see Workers Compensation.

For each accident or injury involving a third party, the location should create a confidential, attorney-client work-product privileged investigative file which should contain among other things: the report of the accident, witness statements, visual records, and communications with the insurance and/or legal departments. This file should become a log for all phone conversations and hold all correspondence (including electronic communications) relating to the particular incident.
