EXTENDED ABSENCES

When, for family reasons, parents wish to take their children out of school temporarily, the principal and teacher will discuss with the parents the possible effects of such an absence. If a student is absent for an extended time, (e.g., 20 or more days), official grades may be withheld.

VACATION ABSENCE

Parents/guardians are urged to plan vacations during school vacation time, not during regularly scheduled school days. There is no substitute for direct instruction. Notify the teacher(s) in writing at least 1 week in advance of a planned absence. Teachers may put together a work packet or an alternate work assignment to be given to the student prior to the vacation. Any other work must be made up after the absence. Certain assignments may not be able to be made up at all, especially in the upper grades. The teacher may prepare alternate assignment packets to establish student understanding for missed work during absences.
