Recess and Lunch / Nutrition
Students have regularly scheduled recess and lunch breaks throughout the day in order to rest, eat and play. The school does not provide snacks or lunch to students. Parents are expected to provide students with healthy snacks and lunches daily. Parents may elect to pack and send snacks and lunches and/or purchase snacks and lunches from the third party food vendor.
Packing Snacks and Lunches
Parents may pack and send lunch and snacks to school with their student.
Please pack lunches in a lunch box or bag with the student's name clearly labeled on it.
Please follow the teacher's classroom procedures for packing and storing the lunch and snacks.
Classroom and school rules typically require food items to be stored in the hallway during the school day.
Refrigerators, hot water, and microwaves are not available for student use.
Drinking fountains and water bottle fillers are available for student use. Water bottle use and classroom storage policies vary depending on the teacher. Please make sure water bottles are labeled with the student's name on it.
Students may not eat or drink in classrooms or hallways unless given explicit permission (usually only on "rainy days").
Incarnation is NOT a "nut free" school, but the school does have students with significant peanut and tree nut allergies. Please keep that in mind when packing lunches or planning for parties and other special treats. Classes will designate nut free tables and ask students with peanut or tree nut foods in their lunch that day not to sit at those tables.
The only two options for food on campus are to pack a lunch and snack or to purchase them from the food vendor.
Purchasing Snacks and Lunches
The school partners with a third party food vendor who uses the kitchen to prepare and sell food items during recess and lunch. Normally, a monthly menu is sent home through the HomeMessenger. Parents select which meals they wish to purchase and send the completed menu selections, along with payment, to the main office or directly to the food provider.
Students Sent to School Without a Lunch
- When the school is aware that a parent did not provide for snacks and/or lunch (or the student forgot/lost the items) the school will work with the parent to make sure the student is fed.
- Normally, parents will bring the packed lunch to the front office who will deliver them to the student.
- When that is not possible, the school will ask the food vendor to provide a meal to the student (depends on availability, provided meals will be billed to the parents by the vendor).
- If neither the parent nor the vendor are able to provide food the school will provide something for the student to eat.
