Arrival/Dismissal Procedures:
Drop off and pick-up:
ARRIVAL FOR GRADES 1-5:
1. For the safety of our students, parents/carpools will enter the upper elementary side driveway on Apperson St. on Tujunga Canyon Blvd. and drive slowly down toward the container on the far end of the playground (Closest to 2nd grade) following the directions of the morning safety monitors.
2. Children will be let out of the cars on the passenger side and will walk down the stairs to the lunch area. Parents will follow the traffic cones and loop out the same way they entered and make
a right-hand turn only. Students will line up on their class line in the assembly area until the first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. at which time their teacher will bring them to the classroom.
3. Parents who would like to walk their children into the school or have business in the office may park on the upper parking lot facing Tujunga Canyon all the way against the wall. Students that walk to school will walk into the Lower Playground entering the gate on Apperson Street and follow the painted path to the steps to the Lunch Area.
4. Late arrivals in grades 1-5 must be walked into the office by their parents through the Upper Playground gate and receive a Late Admit Slip. TK/Kindergartners and Junior High students will also have to get a late slip from the office. Students line up at 7:55 am and be in class by 8:00 am. Gates will be locked at 8:05 am.
5. There is to be no playing before school.
6. Double parking is strictly prohibited at all times.
TK, KINDERGARTEN AND JUNIOR HIGH:
1. All students in grades TK, K, 6, 7, and 8 should follow the above procedure on the first school day of the week for the whole school assembly, except on rainy days.
2. Junior High and TK/ Kindergarten students are dropped off on the lower church parking lot behind the auditorium. Do not double-park. Do not make U-turns.
3. Students must go directly to their homeroom class.
Double parking on Apperson St. or parking in the Dekat Hall driveway is strictly forbidden and subject to a citation issued by the Los Angeles Police Department.
MORNING ASSEMBLY:
All students are to be dropped off on the elementary side on the 1st day of the week for morning assembly (may be Tuesday if there is no school on Monday). Students will be led to their classrooms by their classroom teachers after assembly.
MORNING DAYCARE
1. Morning Daycare opens at 7:00 a.m.
2. Parents will follow the above procedure entering the upper Apperson gate driving all the way down to the container and parking their car.
3. Parents will then drive to the same gate they entered through and exit.
4. All students who arrive on campus before 7:45 a.m. will be charged for morning Daycare.
AFTER-SCHOOL PICK-UP PROCEDURE
1. Grades 1-5: Parents enter the upper playground by making a right hand turn. Once in the playground loop around the perimeter slowly. 3 cars will be loaded with students at a time. After your child is secure in the car, follow the teacher’s instructions and slowly pull out of the lot making a RIGHT TURN ONLY.
2. Kindergarten: Parents park in the lot behind the auditorium and walk to their child’s classroom to sign out their child.
3. If you cannot avoid being late to pick up your child, please call the school office. Your child will be supervised by Lion’s Den personnel until you arrive. Families are charged for Lion’s Den after 3:15p.m.
4. The parent or person designated on the emergency card will be the only person that the student is released to at dismissal. The following exceptions are made with a parent/guardian signed O.L.L. Walking /Carpool Permission form:
a. Students may walk across Apperson St. to Jr. High or the Elementary building to wait in their sibling’s classroom to be signed out by their parent/guardian/carpool driver.
b. Teachers may sign out a student who is walking home or to an after school activity (ACE, sports, choir, decathlon meetings, etc.)
c. Older students may sign out siblings of the family who are walking home together. Students may not walk to a vehicle in the parking area.
d. Once signed out, students must leave campus. If a student is signed out to walk home, they must walk home and not be picked up on Apperson Street or surrounding streets.
