All new students entering are placed on a probation period for the first year in order to ensure that the student is adjusting well to the learning environment.
If the student is adjusting well, he/she will be taken off probation following trimester one. If a student is not adjusting one of two things will happen:
- Family will be asked to withdraw the student from school or
- Student's probation period will be extended (After the extended probation period, the principal and the pastor will determine if it is necessary to withdraw students from school or remove him/her from probationary status).
When a student falls below C-, he/she will be placed on academic probation. During academic probation the student will not be permitted to take part in extracurricular activities. The student may be taken off academic probation after three weeks if the student brings his/her grades up to a C-. A student may be asked to withdraw from school for consistently low grades if this is due to lack of effort.
Retention
Per the Extended Absence Policy, students who are absent for an extended period of time may need to repeat the grade the following year. Moreover, the decision to promote a student to the next grade or to retain him/her in the present grade should be based upon a consideration of the overall welfare of the student, i.e., made by carefully weighing academic, emotional, and social factors. Retention is an opportunity for a child to acquire a stronger foundation before going into the next grade.
Transfer
If a student is on academic probation, the principal, pastor, teacher(s) and parents will discuss what strategy is in the best interest of the student to determine whether the student will continue at St. Brendan School.
