Homework

Teachers will review the homework and make up work policies with the students and at Back to School Night for the parents.

The purpose of homework is to reinforce material taught and to foster habits of independent study. Parents can help children learn good study habits by providing a quiet, well-lighted place to work and by giving assistance with effectively organizing time. Assignments are generally given to all students on nights in which school is in session. Make-up or long-range assignments may also be required. It is assumed that students will complete homework assignments neatly and completely, regardless of extracurricular activities. It is expected that papers are completed according to directions given by the teacher and that they are clean and neat. A note of explanation may be sent to the teacher by a parent when there is a legitimate reason for unfinished assignments. In all cases, there may be a penalty for late or incomplete class work and homework assignments. Classroom teachers will provide specific guidelines.

The time allotments for homework are as follows:

  • Grades K - 2 Approximately 30 minutes
  • Grades 3 - 5 Approximately one hour
  • Grades 6 - 8 Approximately two hours

Students are responsible for work missed due to absenteeism or tardiness. Arrangements must be made, at the convenience of the teacher, upon return to make up any work missed. This is the sole responsibility of the student.

Parents may request homework for their student in the event of an extended absence.  Please provide the teacher a minimum of 48 hours to prepare the materials.  If a student is ill for a short period of time, the school believes the students should rest and recover and work with their teacher to make up any missed assignments upon their return to the school.
