MASS AND FORMAL UNIFORM DAYS
Please note that ties are required for both boys and girls on Mass days or formal uniform days. If a student arrives without their tie, a tie will be provided by the school, and the student/parent will be charged for the tie each time the student is out of compliance.

All students are required to wear a complete dress uniform and must be in full uniform on the first day of class. All clothing should be clearly marked with the student's name. Uniform order forms are available in the school office. Uniforms (including P.E. attire) must be purchased through:

GROOMING POLICY
Students are expected to arrive at school clean, neatly groomed, and in full uniform unless a "Free Dress" day is declared.

  • Makeup:
    • Makeup is not allowed at any grade level. Students may not wear any form of makeup on their face, nor may they wear nail polish, fake nails, or body markings. This includes but is not limited to mascara, lip gloss, nail polish, or acrylic nails.
    • Pimple patches may be worn, but they must be skin tone-colored and round in shape.
    • If makeup is worn, students will be asked to wash it off.
  • Piercings:
    • Boys are not allowed to wear earrings.
    • Girls may wear only one earring per earlobe, and only stud-type earrings, no larger than a small pearl.
    • Hoops or dangling earrings are not permitted for safety reasons.
  • Jewelry:
    • Students may wear one simple ring (either a band or a single stone, and religious in nature) on their finger.
    • Only a cross or religious medal necklace is allowed.
    • Students may wear a regular wristwatch and one religious bracelet.
    • Fitness monitors are allowed, but smartwatches (e.g., Apple Watch) are not permitted at any time.
  • Hair:
    • Hair must always be clean, combed, and maintained in a neat style.
    • Girls' hair must be groomed and kept out of the face, with eyes visible at all times.
    • Unacceptable hairstyles include, but are not limited to, "tails," shaved designs, dyed, bleached, streaked, or spiked hair. During the school year, hair must be the student's natural color. If in doubt about a hairstyle, consult the administration before cutting or styling the hair.
    • Boys' hair must be neatly groomed, cut above the eyebrow, above the back collar, and must not extend below the mid-ear. A classic taper, with short sides and back that taper to the top, is appropriate. Very short sides and back with long hair on top is not allowed. Boys should be clean-shaven.
    • Girls' hair must be well-groomed and styled so that vision is not obscured.
  • Uniform Length: Jumpers, skirts, and shorts must touch the knee. This will be strictly enforced.
  • Shirts and Blouses: All uniform shirts and blouses must be tucked in at all times.
    • Clothing Fit: Oversized, baggy pants, shirts, or shorts are not allowed. Shorts and pants must be worn at the waist.
  • Mass Days: On days when students attend Mass, shorts are not permitted for boys or girls.

The uniform code will be strictly enforced. Any student found in violation of the uniform code will receive a uniform violation notice. After three notices, the student will receive a detention.

ENFORCEMENT OF THE UNIFORM CODE
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School expects full cooperation from parents in enforcing the uniform code. If an unusual circumstance arises that prevents the uniform code from being followed, parents are asked to send a note of explanation or email the appropriate teacher.
If a uniform violation is not corrected without a valid reason, the school will issue a warning to inform both the student and the parents about the violation. Failure to correct the violation may result in the student being barred from attending St. Maria Goretti Catholic School until the issue is resolved.

Parents are also encouraged to assist their students in carefully selecting appropriate clothing for non-uniform (or “free") dress days to ensure it aligns with the day's activities. The rules of grooming and dress code apply not only during school hours but also during school-related events, such as games and tournaments, whether on or off campus.

NON-UNIFORM (“FREE") DRESS POLICY
Non-uniform, or “free dress" days are a privilege granted to the student body. On these days, students may wear street clothes instead of the school uniform. However, the following guidelines must be followed for appropriate clothing:

  • General Guidelines:
    • All parts of the body normally covered by the school uniform must be covered on free dress days.
    • School Spirit shirts may only be worn on Fridays.
    • All clothing must be clean and untattered.
    • Clothing must fit properly—no tight-fitting or baggy clothes.
    • Leggings may not be worn as pants, and bike shorts are not appropriate for school.
  • Length and Style:
    • Shorts, skirts, dresses, or skorts must be mid-thigh length or longer.
    • No slits above the knee on skirts.
  • Clothing Restrictions:
    • Low-cut or see-through clothing is not acceptable.
    • Sandals and slip-ons are not allowed (slip-ons may only be worn for junior high dances and the Christmas program).
    • No clothing with pictures or phrases that reflect immoral or improper values.
    • No nail polish may be worn.

If a student's “free dress" selection is inappropriate, the parents may be contacted, and the student will be asked to change into the school uniform.
