Teachers use a variety of curricula-based and teacher created tests to determine progress, achievement, and ability. These summative tests are where a student demonstrates their knowledge and understanding at the end of a unit or during the course of study. Formative tests are used to check student's understanding so that teachers can adjust instruction, review materials, and reteach as needed.
The Department of Catholic Schools is responsible for a comprehensive testing program in all Archdiocesan Catholic schools which ensures a constant evaluation of pupil's progress. These tests are as follows:
- Achievement tests are administered in Junior Kindergarten – 8th Grade. The Archdiocese utilizes the Renaissance Learning Star Assessments, an online testing program. There will be three testing sessions throughout the school year in the areas of Math and English Language Arts. The testing schedule is determined by the Archdiocese.
- Assessing Knowledge and Beliefs (ARK) measures the effectiveness of religious education programs in schools and parishes. . This test is administered in January each year to all students in 2nd to 8th Grade.
