Promotion/Retention
Ordinarily, students who satisfactorily complete the prescribed grade level curriculum are promoted to the next highest grade at the end of the school year. Exceptions are made at the discretion of the principal. The decision to promote or accelerate a student to the next grade or to retain him/her in the present grade is based upon a consideration of the overall welfare of the student. The decision will be made in consultation with parents and by carefully weighing academic, emotional, and social factors. But, at the end of the year, if a student has an average grade of “F" in Language Arts or Mathematics, the student may be retained and required to repeat the grade. The principal, in consultation with the parents/guardians and faculty, shall make the final decision regarding retention.
Whenever a pupil transfers to or from another school, a copy of the Cumulative Student Report and the original Health Record shall be transferred by the former school. Parents must authorize the release of the records to Our Lady of the Assumption. The original Cumulative Student Report will remain at the school.
A record of the transfer, the reason for the transfer, and the name of the school to which the student is transferring or entering after graduation should be entered on the original copy of the Cumulative Student Report and the date of transfer is indicated in the Student Attendance Register.
Official transcripts are not given to students or parents. The school grants full credit for all work a student accomplishes up to the time of transfer.
Our Lady of the Assumption School reserves the right to determine a charge for parents for copies of records when multiple copies are requested.
