ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION
In order to receive a diploma at graduation, a student must have successfully completed 7TH and 8TH grades according to all academic requirements. If, at the end of 7TH grade, a student has not maintained a 2.0 G.P.A., he/she will not be promoted to 8TH grade. If, at the end of 8TH grade, a student has not maintained a 2.0 G.P.A., he/she will not participate in the graduation ceremony or receive a diploma.
Every 8th Grader will be required to give a portfolio presentation as part of their final exam near the end of Trimester 3. The teacher will give information during Back to School Night.
Requirements for Valedictorian:
To be eligible for consideration as class valedictorian, a student must:
Be a student at St. Gregory the Great School for at least two (2) years.
Have a G.P.A. between 3.5 and 4.0 in 7th and 8th grades.
Attendance Record must be 85% or higher
Be actively involved in at least two (2) school activities
Be a role model to other students by having excellent conduct. Receiving a suspension will automatically disqualify a student for consideration as a valedictorian
Be service oriented in the total life of St. Gregory the Great School.
CJSF & HONOR ROLL / RECOGNITION
Students are recognized for academic achievement, citizenship and attendance. In order for a student to achieve honor roll status, a student must have a “B” or above in every subject including behavior and effort.
Students who achieve Honor Roll status will be recognized in the monthly newsletter.
CJSF Requirements for Trimester Membership
Students of Grades 7 and 8 who meet the requirements may apply for membership in the California Junior Scholastic Federation.
The student must be recognized as a worthy school citizen and have completed ten (10) hours of service (each trimester) to the school, parish or community.
The student’s record for the previous semester must have no grade lower than a “C”.
Attendance must be above average. No more than 2 absences and no more than 2 tardies in a trimester. (revised 7/2023)
Points for attendance are as follows:
Perfect Attendance = 3 points (must not be late)
Missed one(1)/two(2) days/(1)/ Two (2) Tardies= 2 points
Missed three(3)/Tardy(3) days or more =0 points
She/he must attain a minimum of 14 points in six solid subjects for his/her semester average. The six subjects considered are Religion, Mathematics, Reading, English/Writing, History, Science and Attendance.
Membership is one trimester only but may be renewed another trimester whenever the student again meets the requirements.
If a student is a member for three semesters, a gold seal will be placed on his/her diploma.
A = 3 CJSF points
B = 1 CJSF point
1 extra point for an A or a B in an AP, IB, or Honors-designated course (if offered), not to exceed two such points per semester/trimester
C or Pass = 0 CJSF points
D or F in any subject shall disqualify the student from membership for the semester/trimester.
