​​​St. Joseph the Worker School follows the religion standards set forth by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Additionally, textbooks are approved by the USCCB and follow the Catechism of the Catholic Church. ​

The principal is ultimately responsible for engaging the entire faculty and students in proclaiming the Gospel message, in furthering the faith community, in organizing worship experiences, in providing service opportunities and in implementing archdiocesan policies and guidelines. 

Specifically, the principal and religion coordinator are responsible for the following 

Proclaiming the Gospel Message 

  • ​Oversee the Catechetical Ministry Ongoing Formation program
    • plan in-services for the faculty in various areas of catechesis
    • maintain school/teacher files
    • Direct and evaluate the religion program through the completion/updating of the WCEA/WASC Annual Report of Progress
    • Prepare teachers in grade 2 through 8 for the administration of ARK testing
    •  facilitating the analysis and follow-up of test results with the entire faculty
    • Alert the faculty to resources of personal faith development and catechetical updating (e.g. books, periodicals, Church documents, workshops, and classes). 
    • Observe (formally or informally) religion classes annually
​Furthering the Faith Community 

  • Facilitate communication between the school and the parish regarding the religion program 
  • Collaborate with the religious education program (joint programs for students)
  • Inform families of ongoing faith formation opportunities for parents
  • Assist with the coordination of shared facilities. 
  • Encourage parents to take an active interest in their parish and their children’s religious formation
Organizing Worship Experiences 

  • ​Plan the faculty retreat and/or experiences of prayer and worship
  • Oversee the preparation and assess the effectiveness of liturgies, non-Eucharistic prayer celebrations, and reconciliation services for students. 
  • Plan, in consultation with those involved, seasonal liturgical activities for the school community.
  • Facilitate the development of parish-school guidelines for the sacramental programs. 
​Provide Service Opportunities 
  • Aid in the implementation of activities designed to promote social responsibility through service within and beyond the school community
  • Heightened teacher awareness of the need to integrate social justice issues into other curricula and provide resources, if necessary
  • Oversee mission awareness and education programs
  • Provide educational opportunities that promote religious and lay Christian vocations.​
