Testing - We participate in an archdiocese-wide testing program (STAR). Teachers use the test results to identify their students’ relative academic strengths and weaknesses, to design curriculum, and plan for instruction.

Assessment - Assessment of student learning is a critical component of the educational program and is ongoing and multifaceted. To help all students achieve high standards and become self directed, responsible, and faith filled individuals, schools shall assess student learning with standardized and curriculum based forms of assessment.

The system of evaluation should be a network of many forms of evaluation and must be used in conjunction with the other aspects of the student’s academic life. These assessment forms include, but are not limited to, classwork, exit tickets, projects, quizzes, and tests.

In all areas of assessment, it must be stressed that the results and scores derived are only one of the elements that should be considered when determining a student’s academic performance and progress, and when determining program effectiveness. Many factors must be taken into account, and care must be taken to keep the welfare of the “whole child” in mind. Our assessment goals are met through STAR testing, together with curriculum-based assessment and evaluation.
