Traffic Pattern Safety

In order to insure the safety of your children at all times, we ask your cooperation in observing the following regulations:

  • Students may not exit their cars until they have arrived at their designated loading pad.
  • In the morning, enter by the second gate on Saltair Ave. and exit by the north gate of the upper parking lot only.  Please do not turn left into the parking lot from Saltair Ave.  Please do not turn right at any time upon exiting campus unless you live north of Sunset.
  • Drivers are asked to stop in the loading area when requested and to comply with all staff directions regarding moving forward, stopping, turning off their engines, parking and exiting. Students must exit on the right side of the vehicle for morning drop off.
  • Students are requested to have backpacks with them in the vehicle.  It slows down carpool to have to open trunks to retrieve or put away backpacks.

Morning Drop-off
Students must arrive no earlier than 7:30 a.m. and not later than 7:50 a.m.  Students may be unloaded only at the designated unloading areas in the upper parking lot.  Cars must move all the way up to the loading pads before discharging passengers.  Students may leave their cars only by doors on the right hand side of the vehicle.

Afternoon Pick-up

  • Students will not be dismissed between 2:00-3:00 p.m.  If you need to take your child to an appointment please arrive before 2:00 p.m.  Students may lose credit for unexcused absences from class.
  • Children will wait with their teacher in the classroom until they are called to the carpool loading area located south of the Kindergarten classroom. No car may wait for a student who is not there when his or her car reaches the loading area.  The car will have to go around the block to the end of the line.  If asked to do so by a teacher, student loader, or other official, parents should comply quickly and without protest.
  • Cars may arrive at school no earlier than 3:00 p.m. since the gates are closed until then.  Earlier arrivals may not line up.  If a driver must pick a child up early, he/she should park on the west side of Saltair.  Parents or guardians must come to the school office and sign the child out before removing him/her from school.
  • In the afternoon, enter by the third or north gate in the upper lot on Saltair.  Cars will enter and form two lines. Using our PikMyKid system, designated pickups should use the "Announce" feature of the application as they enter the upper lot.  Pickups who do not have the PikMyKid application must see a staff member upon entering for assistance. Cars will exit by the gate on the lower parking lot only.  Right turns are not permitted exiting the lot unless the student lives immediately north of school.
  • During afternoon pickup, cars may not park in stalls adjacent to the library, rectory, or parish center.  If you need to conduct school business, you should park on the west side of Saltair Ave. and enter campus at the conclusion of the dismissal process.

Carpool Compliance

Parents who fail to comply with the carpool procedures may receive a phone call from the administration. Refusal to follow carpool rules may result in fines or mandatory carpooling.

Safety Rules
  • NO PARKING ON SCHOOL GROUNDS  During school hours, parents may not park on school grounds.
  • NO PARKING ON SALTAIR AVE.  Between 2:00 – 3:15 p.m., no parking on either side of Saltair along school property.
  • No Crossing Pick-up Line.  No student or parent on foot may cross the pick-up line at any point under any circumstances, unless specifically directed to do so by a staff member.
  • Joining Pick-up Line.  Cars may join the pick-up line only by coming north on Saltair.  No car may enter the pick-up line by coming south on Saltair and turning in.
  • Please refrain from making cell phone calls and texting while inside the school gates.  It is distracting and dangerous for students and staff who are directing cars in line.
  • Place designated signs or placards on your dashboard and use the new PikMyKid application to announce your presence on campus as directed.

On rainy days, we will continue to use the same procedure.

Thank you for your cooperation in increasing the safety of our students at St. Martin of Tours School. Children who ride bicycles to school must walk their bicycles in the school yard at all times.  Bicycles must be parked and locked in the bike racks during the school day.
