ABSENCE AND TARDINESS

Parents should call the school office prior to 9:00 a.m. each day that a student is absent. The School Secretary will call parents each day who have not notified us of a child's absence. When a student returns to school after having been absent, he/she must bring a note from the parent stating the reason for the child's absence and the date(s) of the absence to the school office. If such an excuse is not received in writing within 48 hours of the absence, the child may be excluded from school until it is received by SPBS.

Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom prior to the 8:00 a.m. bell. All students who are tardy must first report to the school office for an "Admit to Class" slip. Repeated tardiness may result in disciplinary action (see Discipline section). Punctuality is a by-product of self-discipline; therefore, it is a value that is encouraged and stressed at SPBS.  Students who are picked up from school in the last thirty minutes, 2:15 p.m. or later (1:15 p.m. or later on Thursdays or 11:30 a.m. or later on noon dismissal days) will be marked as an Early Leave on their attendance record in accordance with Archdiocesan attendance policies.

Note: Attendance at school is required for a student to participate in after school activities.  The student must arrive at school before noon to participate in after school activities for that day.  Exceptions to this may be approved by the administration.

 HALF DAY ABSENCES

Students arriving after 8:29 a.m. will be considered a morning absence.  Students leaving before 2:15 p.m. (1:15 p.m. on Thursdays) will be considered an afternoon absence.  Students who are pulled out mid-day, including medical appointments, and are gone for at least thirty minutes, will be considered a mid-day absence.  Each of these instances will be marked as a half-day absence on their permanent record.

STUDENT APPOINTMENTS DURING SCHOOL

Medical and dental appointments during school hours are discouraged; however, if it is unavoidable, please send a note with your child so the teacher is aware that the student will be leaving early. The absence will be marked excused only if a dated slip is brought or faxed from the medical or dental office, within 24 hours.

If a student must leave the school grounds during the school day for an appointment, please go to the school office. Children are dismissed from the Office onlyPlease come to the school office to sign out your child and he/she will be notified by the secretary. No child will be released to any person whose name is not on the Emergency Card. Photo identification may be required by the school prior to release.
