St. Joseph the Worker School students have regularly scheduled recess and lunch times.

Transitional Kindergarten has morning recess from 9:30-10:10am and lunch from 11:45-12:55 pm

Kindergarten has morning recess from 10:10-10:45 am and lunch from 12:00-1:00pm.

1st through 8th grade students have the same recess and lunch periods:

Recess: 10:20-10:40 am
Special areas on the playground are assigned to different grades, depending on space available and active participation in a particular sport. Children are expected to respect property and the rights of others during recess and lunch. Those who fail to do so will be asked to remain seated and may receive a referral.

Toys, sports equipment from home, and electronic equipment may not be brought to the school or playground.

Lunch: 12:15- 1:00pm

Students are encouraged to bring their own healthy and nutritious lunches from home or take part in our lunchroom program.

Please be mindful of the portions you send with your children. Mark food designated for snack time, lunch time and daycare so your child knows they don’t have to finish it all at once! Please pack enough food for your child to satisfy their appetite, especially if they are going through a growth spurt!

Because St. Joseph the Worker School is a closed campus and for the safety of our students, all lunches are to be dropped off on the cart outside the main entrance doors. Tape a tag onto the items you brought from home, clearly marked with your child’s name and grade. Students should check the lunch cart in the event they did not bring their lunch to school to see if a lunch has been dropped off. Lunches remaining on the cart will be delivered to the appropriate students.

Students are expected to sit quietly and courteously at the tables while eating lunch. Lunch duty supervisors will dismiss the children at 12:30 pm, once students have finished eating and have cleaned their table areas.

All parents who come during the lunch period and go out to the pavilion must sign in at the front office, get an orange vest and volunteer tag, and receive a volunteer lunch duty assignment for the lunch period. NO CELL PHONES or other electronic devices are permitted while on lunch duty. Parents are not permitted to supervise their own children, with the exception of Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Parents who wish to stay during the lunch period to spend time with their children may not stay under the pavilion or on campus, but may sign their child(ren) out for lunch. You must sign back in to school by the first bell at 12:55 pm or your child will be marked with a pm absence. This policy ensures that all parents under the pavilion and on the yard are in attendance for the specific reason of supervising our students. Your understanding and cooperation is appreciated as it directly benefits the safety of our students.

Should your child not have lunch, one will be provided and billing will be sent home. Prompt payment is expected.

Microwave ovens are NOT available to heat up food for students.
