LUNCH RECESS POLICIES

No child is to leave the school grounds during lunchtime unless signed-out from the school office and accompanied by an adult. Lunches that are delivered to the school office need to be left with the school secretary. While the school office will do its best to deliver your child's lunch, it is the student's responsibility to come to the school office to retrieve it. Lunch for Grades 1-8 begins at 11:30 a.m., and Kindergarten lunch begins at 11:45 a.m. Please be sure to bring lunches prior to the start of the lunch period.

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM (CHOICELUNCH)

SPBS provides a nutritious and delicious Hot Lunch Program through ChoiceLunch Monday through Friday each week for our students in all grades. Hot lunch MUST be pre-purchased and paid for directly through ChoiceLunch online, and certain meal choices are offered during prescribed ordering time limits. Parents and students may select which meals they wish to purchase and on which days, by logging onto the ChoiceLunch website (choicelunch.com), where many menu items are offered each day. Volunteer parents, who work via schedule created by our Volunteer Parent Hot Lunch Coordinator, are needed to help distribute the ChoiceLunch meals to students at lunch time Monday through Friday.

BIRTHDAY SNACK CLASSROOM PROTOCOL

Below is the correct SPBS protocol to follow, when parents wish to bring in a birthday treat for their child's class in any grade.

  • Parents are asked to pre-schedule a date with the teacher by requesting in writing two dates in order of preference at least 10 days prior to the date(s) desired. The teacher then checks for date conflicts, adjusts the date accordingly, and responds in writing or email to the parent. The treat may therefore not be on each child's actual birthday. Please check the SPBS calendar for dates of Bake Sales and Student Council Spirit Day food sales, in order to avoid multiple treats on the same day. The class treats need to be brought into the office before morning recess by the parent, or sent with the child upon arrival at school. The treats are passed-out as the children leave class for their morning recess.
  • Parents must keep the treat a small portion, such as donut holes, as the students often throw away much of the food they receive, and for health reasons, we do not want our students to have treats that are overly large. The treats need to be exactly the same for all students in the class. Please ask the teacher about any food allergies in your child's class and plan on an alternative if needed.

GUM

There is no gum chewing or gum allowed on the SPBS campus at any time, during or outside of regular school hours. This is a “gum free" campus.
