AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES SUPERVISION GUIDELINES

Children must be supervised by an adult at all times while on school grounds. Due to liability and insurance issues, older siblings may not supervise younger children without an adult present. All children still on campus 15 minutes after school dismissal must be under direct adult supervision, or enrolled in a school sponsored extra-curricular activity under direct adult supervision. All remaining students will automatically be signed into Extended Care, and their parents will be billed accordingly. Students may NOT be left at school to watch games or practices without direct adult/parental supervision. Our Extended Care program occasionally brings students enrolled in the program to watch home games and provides adult supervision only for those students. SPBS students may never walk off the campus unaccompanied by an adult on a school day, and then walk back onto our campus. As most games and practices begin at 3:15 p.m. (due to travel time for the opposing team, coach's work schedules, etc.) prior arrangements MUST be made by parents regarding supervision for students before the games. We specifically provide Extended Care for this purpose. It is NOT the responsibility of the coaches to supervise students before and/or after games and practices. Students must be accompanied by a parent or assigned adult at all times during any home games. This is a parental issue and for the safety of our students, this rule will be enforced vigorously and consistently by the school. Note: Any student not picked up promptly after extra-curricular activities will be signed into Extended Care, and the parents will be billed accordingly.

Any adult who is supervising any student or child after 2:45 p.m. (1:45 p.m. on Thursdays) must maintain visual contact with and exercise control over said children. This means that if the adult is inside watching a game, for example, the children being supervised must also be at that game, not outside the visible site line area. No students are ever allowed, for any reason, to walk off the campus unaccompanied by an adult, and then return later. No student is ever allowed, for any reason, to be on campus without being under the direct supervision of a designated adult. Violation of this policy will be dealt with by SPBS in the most severe manner possible, as it is a risk to the safety of the student. No student may arrive on campus prior to 7:30 a.m. on school days. No student/parent may return to the classrooms, hallways, or indoor locker areas to retrieve forgotten items after 3:15 p.m. without permission from the administration or faculty.

EXTENDED CARE / AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

This program offers supervised, outside play, homework/study time, craft projects, and snacks for students currently enrolled in SPBS. Extended care operates Monday – Friday, excluding school holidays, from 2:45–6:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 1:45-6:00 p.m. on Thursdays; 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on “Noon Dismissal" days; and 12:00-6:00 p.m. for Kindergarten students during the month of September. Students capable of completing homework independently may participate in our school “study hall", which is held in the SPBS library from 3:00-4:00 p.m., Tuesdays thru Thursdays, after checking in at Extended Care. SPBS employs Extended Care staff members, who comply with the “Safe Environment Policy and Archdiocesan Guidelines for Adults Interacting with Minors at Parish School Activities/Events". Extended Care staff are fingerprinted and are a minimum of 18 years of age or older. Our SPBS librarian works in conjunction with our Extended Care Program, and coordinates/supervises study hall on designated days.

Extended Care Goals

  • Provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment for the children enrolled in our school after regular school hours.
  • Provide structured play and learning times.
  • Provide an environment, where Christian/Catholic values are inculcated, and the social /personal needs of the children are met, in keeping with the SPBS philosophy.

    Automatic Extended Care Sign-In

In order to maintain a safe environment, Kindergartners will be released to an Extended Care staff member by their classroom teacher after pick-up ends; students in Grades 1-8 are to go to the designated sign-in area on the school patio after pick-up. Any student not participating in supervised extra-curricular activities must be checked into Extended Care or under direct parental supervision at all times while at SPBS after 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. on Thursdays) Any SPBS student at school after 3:00 p.m., who does not meet the above criteria, will be automatically signed into Extended Care by the school Parking Lot Supervisors or other Staff Member, and the parents will be billed accordingly for time spent in Extended Care. This procedure is in place as a safety precaution for our students. We ask our school parents to direct their children to follow our procedures and go to Extended Care as indicated by the SPBS staff member.

    Hours of Operation

The Extended Care Program hours are from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. beginning the first day of school. Note: The program is closed on the last day of school in June.

Extended Care staff members are employed until 6:00 p.m. Please be courteous and respect this time of closure by making sure your child(ren) is/are picked-up by this time. (See Late Fee under Billing/Fees section below.)

Parents or Guardians may not take children, from the schoolyard or other areas, without notifying the staff and signing the child(ren) out, once they are signed into Extended Care. The child(ren) will only be released to those adults whose names are on file as authorized family representatives.

    Extended Care Billing / Fees

Extended Care begins at 2:45 p.m. (1:45 on Thursdays; Noon on Noon Dismissal Days) for all students unless the students are in a school-sponsored activity. Billing begins at 2:45 regardless of whether your child actually checks into Extended Care at 2:45 or later. Extended Care is billed in half hour increments, EXCEPT that there is a minimum one-hour charge. After the first hour, billing is by the half hour.

                            REGULAR RATE         PRE-PAY RATE

    One Child              $9.00/hour               $8.50/hour

    Two Children         $15.00/hour             $14.00/hour

    Three Children       $19.00/hour            $17.50/hour

Families may pay the lower “pre-pay rate" by estimating their usage of extended care and sending a check into the office before the end of each month. You must have paid in advance to receive the reduced rate.

There is no Morning Extended Care.  Students are not permitted on campus until 7:30 a.m. as that is when supervision begins.

All extended care fee payments are handled through the school office. Questions should be referred to the SPBS Accounts Manager at extension 120. Billing will be sent from the school office at the end of each month, along with a statement of your account.

Late Pick Up Fee: $1.00 per minute after 6:00 p.m., payable upon receipt of an invoice from SPBS.

    Student Conduct in Extended Care:

Failure to adhere to the behavioral expectations outlined in the SPBS Parent/Student Handbook will result in loss of enrollment in this program. In cases involving a serious violation of school rules, or persistent and willful disregard for the rules set out by the Extended Care staff, a student may be denied the privilege of attending the SPBS Extended Care program; or, in extreme cases, may not be allowed to attend SPBS.

Lunch / Snacks for Extended Care

On days of early dismissal from school (e.g. Noon on Noon Dismissal Days), it is imperative that parents provide a sack lunch for their children to have during Extended Care. A light snack will be provided for each child in Extended Care each day by SPBS.
