MIXED PARTIES IN JUNIOR HIGH ARCHDIOCESAN GUIDELINES
“Mixed parties involving both male and female students in Grades 6-7, even though these parties are held at home by parents, are especially discouraged. Parents are asked to cooperate with this regulation, even though, strictly speaking, this matter of parental-sponsored parties is one primarily involving parental control and not that of the school. The only exception to this rule would be in the instance of a school sponsored graduation party should that be deemed appropriate by the Principal and parents."
Los Angeles Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools Administrative Handbook
The above-referenced recommendation is from the Archdiocese. However, SPBS allows mixed parties for our own 8th Grade students, as a privilege for our oldest students, when the following criteria are followed:
- The entire Eighth Grade class is invited, i.e. all the boys and girls
- There is adequate adult supervision provided by the host.
- The party is predominantly held during daylight hours.
If further clarification is needed, please contact the Principal prior to the event. Although SPBS recognizes that we cannot, nor do we wish to, control parental choices and directives regarding students in their own homes and outside of school hours, we feel that the Archdiocesan recommendation against having “mixed" parties with boys and girls until 8th Grade is a reasonable recommendation and should be given full consideration by all members of our SPBS school community.
