Extended Absences (Documentation & Communication)

When a student will miss multiple consecutive days (generally 3+ days) due to illness/medical issues or a family emergency, the following documentation is required:

  • Illness/Medical: A doctor’s note is required beginning on the third (3rd) consecutive day of absence. The note should confirm the dates to be excused and any return-to-school guidance or restrictions.

  • Family Emergency: A parent/guardian letter is required stating, in general terms, the nature of the emergency and the expected dates of absence. (Confidential details are not required—brief description is sufficient.)

Notify the school as soon as possible. For planned or known absences, contact the office before the first missed day; for emergent situations, notify the office within 24 hours. Documentation may be submitted as a hard copy or electronically.

Make-up Work: Teachers will provide missed work per classroom procedures. Absences without required documentation will be recorded as unexcused, may be subject to truancy reporting, and may affect eligibility for school activities.
