Parent or Guardiance Right of Visitation at School

Parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children.  The school supports, enhances, and compliments this role.  Keeping this in mind, parents are encouraged to take an active role volunteering on campus.  Opportunities for involvement include, but are not limited to, playground duty, cross guard duty, lunch duty, assisting in the classroom, and working with special projects or programs.  Volunteer signups are available on Schoolspeak. All parents who volunteer on campus for these duties ARE REQUIRED to be Virtus trained, fingerprinted through the LA Archdiocese for oLR and have a signed and dated Adults Working with Minors Guidelines form on file in the school office.

Parents are welcome to observe in the classroom provided the teacher has given consent and prior arrangements have been made. A parent who does not have legal custody of his/her child, but has visitation rights may visit on campus, is subject to the visitation guidelines, unless the school has received a legal order prohibiting such a visit.

All parents visiting or volunteering on campus must sign in at the school office and wear an OLRS Visitor's lanyard while on campus.  Due to liability issues, children may not accompany parents when they are volunteering on campus.

Custody Policy

Divorced or separated parents must file a court-certified copy of the custody and visitation sections of the separation or divorce degree with the principal's office.  OLR Catholic School will not be held responsible for failing to honor arrangements that have not been made known in writing.

The following section is language from the Los Angeles Archdiocese that supports OLR's policies and procedures on these issues.
